We are happy and all smiles
...
. . . . . . . .

Enormously
happy ...

We do not seem to
have words
to describe our happiness ...
My mom still
enjoys telling anecdotes and, as always, she begins laughing
before the punch line ... And I am not far
behind ...

Very very
happy indeed to be together ...

Finally, my mom
was able to figure out how the Aspirin bottle that I brought
from America can be opened ...

Being aware that
my Nutcracker may grab her finger, my mom is taking no
chances ...

Making a point
...

And making believe
that I am talking at the newly installed
telephone ...
On April 28, 2002 --my mom's 86th
birthday ...
We started the
lunch with cheese pastry and a heavenly good Armenian
Cogniac "Ararat" brought from the US. Then, we continued
with the legendary "Salad de Beuf" made by me which was
fantastically good ... as we had many
encores ... All this was the "warm up" for the
main course that was skinless breast chicken
sautéed in garlic with other condiments and served
"a-la grill" with fresh salad. We had with all this an
exquisite Muscat Otonel white wine. The center of dessert
was the fabulous tort called the "Diplomat Special" with
real whipped cream and chocolate through a special order
expressly made for me. Fresh strawberries and grapes from
Greece (enormously expensive) were also part of this
festive and extravagant meal. . . . .

The white lilac and my mom's birthday tort
(detailed below) can be seen at far left.
With Dr.
Florin, a dentist and a distant relative who lived for a
while in Israel and who visits quite often with my mom
and who joined us at Mom's Birthday "extravaganza"
lunch.

My Nutcracker is
standing guard keeping an eye
on this fabulous tort ...

Yes, it is time for
coffee and some chitchat ...
and, of course, smoking ...
For Mom smoking still reigns
supreme ...
Feel good when I
smoke, and ... how much I like it ...!

My mom in great spirits ..
There is nothing like a
good laugh ...
That is all for now.
Thank you for your visit.
With lots of love dear mom.
Kalman.
P.S. from Kalman: These current pictures (as the ones from the last year) were taken with the same Russian camera (Zorki-S) that I took with me when I left Romania in 1969! [See Part 9 of my Great Escape story.]
