Frank Garfi: In Brother's Footsteps

FrankAfter a dull time studying pharmacy, Frank Garfi, the son of an immigrant Brooklyn barber, found a job that suited him precisely. His first year as a trader at Cantor Fitzgerald was as fast-paced, demanding and as power-filled as an extreme sport.

"He was ecstatic about it," said Vito Garfi, his brother, who also worked in finance. "Coming in everyday and participating in a worldwide game. Trading millions of dollars. Constantly trying to fight all the other traders and gauge the market."

After a lifetime of looking up to his older brother, Frank Garfi, 29, was meeting him as an equal, said Sabina, his sister-in-law. Vito Garfi, 33, "was big, was everything, to Frank," she said. "He loved talking about stocks and companies and the economy and financing," she said of the younger brother. "He loved that he could actually sit down with his brother at the table and talk about this stuff. He was in it, too, now."
